I'd further like to add that the pro-life movement tends to miss the forest for the trees in my opinion; their goal is not to end abortion or even to lessen its frequency but rather to simply make it illegal. Thus the end result of the actions of the pro-lifers, if they do succeed, will be in addition to a lower abortion rate (but not a non-existent one), a higher rate of mortality among mothers trying to abort their pregnancies themselves or with non-medically trained help, a higher number of unwanted children, a greater dependence on welfare, a greater number of unadopted children, and in 15-20 years, likely a higher crime rate.

The ironic part is that the people who would use governmental power to take away the right to abortion are the same people who would discourage the use of governmental power to deal with the consequences of denying that right.

Finally, not to attack any group in particular, but here's a bit of food for thought: there are programs of actual, non-metaphorical genocide occurring as we speak in Africa and in other parts of the world that we're not even all that well informed about. Imagine if the pro-life groups were spending their money to help with that, instead of paying for a plane to circle a university campus all day or to send mailers with pictures of dissected fetuses. I wonder what the difference in lives saved would be.
