Dear residents,
We were so happy to have you as residents this year at the University Residence Halls. There are a few things that we ask you to keep in mind as you move out.
1. Please be observant as you pack up and leave. Noting things such as the neares elevator and the dollies that you walk past will help you.
2. Antagonizing housing staff is never a good idea. Remember, we have the campus police on speed dial, and generally they like us. You, on the other hand, especially if you're chronically violating parking laws, are not liked by the police. Don't tempt us to make sure you have a bad year next year.
3. Once you check out, that's it. You cannot get back into your room or your mailbox. If your RA was unavailable for one day you can ask to have another RA check you out, or just wait a day.
4. Please give your parents or whoever is assisting you your cell phone number. I am not allowed to give your number out, nor can I call you for them. I cannot leave the desk so I cannot go knock on your door either. Make sure you are awake and able to move your things when they come!
5. Please try to get all your forms filled out and signed and your keys off your keyring. It wastes a lot of time for the DA if they have to wait for you to sign your room condition form, fill out a change of address form, and take your keys off your keyring. If you want to leave quickly, have everything in order.
6. Remember to make an appointment with your RA and be sure to be ready to leave when the RA comes. This means no garbage or "one last things" left. Do NOT just leave without checking out with your RA and the desk properly. We can slap you with a lot of fines ranging anywhere from $10 on up.
7. Fill out a change of address form. We just want to know where to send your mail over the summer; we don't care where you're staying next year. Just give us an address so you actually get those Sports Illustrateds and your parking citation bills.
8. Don't be a smartass. We do remember such things and the results aren't pretty.
Once you've checked out properly and turned in your keys, said goodbye to your RA and packed your car, we hope you will have a safe trip home!
Sincerely,
The Desk Assistant
